Hire React Developers

React developers build the interactive layer of web products. The role has narrowed considerably since hooks became standard - most day-to-day work is component composition, state management and performance tuning rather than architecture. The dividing line between a competent React developer and an expensive one is usually rendering behaviour: whether they understand why a component re-renders and can fix it without reaching for memo everywhere.

Skills to screen for

Must have5

  • React (hooks, context, component composition)
  • JavaScript ES2020+ and the DOM
  • State management (Redux Toolkit, Zustand or TanStack Query)
  • CSS layout - flexbox and grid, without a framework crutch
  • Browser devtools profiling

Useful to have4

  • TypeScript
  • Next.js / SSR
  • Testing Library
  • Web performance budgets

Experience levels and what to expect

CTC ranges are advertised figures from live listings on betterjobs.in, not survey data. Actual offers vary with location, funding stage and interview performance.

LevelExperienceScopeTypical CTC
Junior0-2 yearsBuilds components from designs against an existing pattern library.4-8 L
Mid-level2-5 yearsOwns a feature area end to end, including its state model and API contracts.9-18 L
Senior5-9 yearsSets component architecture, performance budgets and review standards.20-38 L
Lead / Principal9+ yearsOwns frontend platform decisions across multiple product teams.40-70 L

What this role owns

  • Build and maintain reusable component libraries
  • Integrate REST or GraphQL APIs with proper loading and error states
  • Diagnose and fix render performance problems
  • Ensure keyboard accessibility and semantic markup

What actually separates a good hire here

Ask how they would debug a list that stutters when typing in a filter box. Strong candidates go to render counts, memoisation boundaries and whether state lives too high in the tree. Weak ones suggest adding useMemo everywhere or blame the framework.

The common mistake

Screening on years of React rather than on JavaScript depth. Someone with four years of React and shaky closure and async knowledge will produce subtle state bugs that take longer to fix than the feature took to build.

Questions worth asking in a first screen

  1. 1Walk me through what happens between setState and the DOM updating.
  2. 2When would you deliberately NOT memoise a component?
  3. 3How do you decide whether state belongs in a component, a context, or a server cache?
