Data entry pay clusters tightly at the entry level and then separates sharply based on one thing: whether you can do more than type.
Excel. Not "familiar with MS Office" on a resume, but genuinely working knowledge: sorting and filtering, VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and text functions for cleaning messy data. The difference between an operator who types records and one who can produce a summary from them is, consistently, ₹8,000–₹10,000 a month. It is free to learn and it is the highest-return thing available to anyone in this role.
After Excel, the next step up is SQL — and that is the point at which the job title stops being data entry.
First, treat any work-from-home data entry role promising ₹500–₹2,000 a day as fraudulent until proven otherwise. That advertisement is the most common job scam in India, and it always ends in a request for money from the candidate.
Second, check whether a quoted figure is CTC or in-hand. A ₹2.4L CTC is roughly ₹17,000–₹18,000 in hand once PF and other deductions come out — ask what will actually be credited each month.
