Electrician salary in India

What electricians earn by sector, experience and licence status — and why the state licence is the single biggest jump in the trade.

Electrician pay depends less on years served than on two things: whether you hold a state licence, and which sector you work in.

By experience

  • Helper / trainee — ₹10,000–₹14,000 a month.
  • ITI-qualified, 0–2 years — ₹13,000–₹18,000.
  • 3–5 years — ₹18,000–₹28,000.
  • Licensed supervisor / 8+ years — ₹30,000–₹50,000.

By sector

  • Residential and small commercial wiring — the lowest band, and the most seasonal.
  • Facilities and maintenance — steady, shift-based, mid band, usually with PF and ESI.
  • Industrial and plant maintenance — the best-paid standard track; motors, panels and control systems.
  • Solar and EV charging installation — currently short of experienced people and paying above the equivalent general-wiring role.

What raises it fastest

  1. The state Wireman or Supervisor licence. It is legally required for a range of work and is the clearest single step up in earnings in this trade.
  2. A specialisation — HT work, panel building, PLC and industrial automation, or solar.
  3. Moving from contractor labour to a company payroll, which usually means PF, ESI and paid leave on top of the wage.

Contracting

Independent contractors in metros earn well above the employed bands, but the comparison is not like for like: you carry your own tools, transport, insurance and the gaps between jobs, and you invoice rather than draw a salary. Most electricians who go independent do it after building a client base while employed, not before.
