Employee Recognition Policy

An employee recognition policy sets up a fair rewards and recognition (R&R) programme — spot awards, employee of the month or quarter, annual awards, long-service milestones and peer appreciation — with clear criteria, nomination steps, budgets and approvals. It helps managers appreciate good work consistently instead of occasionally.

Frequently asked questions

Are employee awards taxable in India?+

Cash awards are taxable as salary. Gifts and vouchers may be exempt only up to the limit allowed under income tax rules; beyond that they are taxable perquisites. Confirm with your payroll adviser.

How often should recognition happen?+

Informal appreciation should be continuous. Formal awards commonly run monthly or quarterly with an annual event.

Can employees under disciplinary action receive awards?+

Many policies exclude employees with an active written warning or pending inquiry from formal awards during that period. State the rule clearly.
