Frequently asked questions

What is an individual development plan?+

An IDP is a short written plan agreed between an employee and manager listing career goals, skills to build and actions such as training, projects or mentoring, with target dates.

What is the difference between career development and training?+

Training builds specific skills for the current role. Career development is the longer-term path — future roles, moves and experiences — of which training is one part.

Can a manager stop an employee from moving internally?+

A good policy lets managers delay release for a limited period for handover, but not block a move indefinitely once the employee is selected.
