Frequently asked questions

Can a company transfer an employee if the appointment letter has no transfer clause?+

It becomes harder to justify. Including a clear transfer clause at the appointment stage gives the employer the right, subject to reasonableness and applicable rules.

What retirement age should an appointment letter mention?+

Use the age set out in your standing orders or HR policy. Many private companies use 58 or 60, but there is no single figure for all employers.

Should leave details be written in the appointment letter?+

A short summary helps, but refer to the leave policy for the full rules so you can update the policy without reissuing letters.
