HR tips

  • Check the offered wage against the current state minimum wage for the skill category
  • Do not describe workmen roles as 'managerial' just to exclude them from law; describe actual duties
  • Hand over safety induction material on day one and record attendance
  • Keep overtime language neutral: it is paid as per law and must be authorised

This template is a starting point. Review it against the Labour Codes and state rules, minimum wage notifications, your certified standing orders and with a legal adviser where needed.

Frequently asked questions

Is overtime compulsory in a manufacturing company?+

Overtime should be authorised by the supervisor and paid at the rate required by law. The offer letter can state that overtime may be required as per production needs, within legal limits.

Do factory workers need ESI coverage?+

Employees earning up to ₹21,000 a month are covered by ESI, with 3.25% employer and 0.75% employee contributions. Most operators and technicians fall in this band.

Should the offer letter mention standing orders?+

Yes. Mentioning that the employee will be governed by the plant's standing orders or service rules makes conduct and discipline expectations clear from the start.
