What this template includes

  • A job summary that explains why the accountant role exists and where it sits in Finance & Accounts
  • 10 role-specific responsibilities, starting with record purchase
  • Required skills such as strong working knowledge of tally prime or equivalent accounting software and practical understanding of gst, tds and basic income tax provisions, so screening criteria are clear
  • Qualifications and experience (2–5 years in accounting, preferably in an Indian SME) stated up front to filter applications

When to use it

How to customise this template

  1. 1Replace [Company Name], [Work Location] and the reporting line (Finance Manager / [Reporting Manager]) with your actual details
  2. 2Trim or reorder the responsibilities so the top three reflect what the accountant will spend most time on
  3. 3Name the accounting software you actually use (Tally Prime, Zoho Books, Busy or SAP B1) instead of leaving it generic
  4. 4Fill in the salary range as annual CTC in ₹ and decide whether to show it publicly or only on request
  5. 5Set realistic targets in the KPI table with the hiring manager before the role goes live

HR tips

  • Mention whether the role handles GST return filing itself or only prepares data for the CA, since candidates price these very differently
  • Ask for a short practical test on Tally entries and bank reconciliation rather than relying on the CV alone
  • Keep month-end closing dates in the KPI table so expectations are measurable from day one
